A little known tree even though it is native to nearly a third of the country. Moderately fast growing with upright arching branches and large leaves. New leaves have a pink to purplish tint and change to dark green. As the tree matures the first branches can be 10 to 15 feet up the trunk, allowing activities to take place under the canopy. Widely adaptable, tolerates urban environments. Great street, park and lawn tree. Pendulous seed pods provide added interest. Underused, a unique and beautiful tree.
